Kris Growcott and Shannon Dolan created Offset My Life to give conscientious individuals a simple and non-intrusive way to reduce their carbon footprint.

Mr Growcott explains that Offset My Life is a reaction to the confusion, fear, and conservatism being promulgated by political leaders in Australia:

“Sadly, the political storm surrounding the introduction of a Carbon Tax is having a detrimental effect on Australian’s motivation to act for a greener future. Those who were reluctant to accept change have been given a legitimate reason to maintain their position.  And those who were keen to act are now more confused than ever.  It’s frustrating to watch given action is required now. “

Mr Dolan states that through Offset My Life, individuals can address the impact their modern life is having on the environment one step at a time:

“We realised that so many people wanted to do something about their impact on the environment but simply didn’t know where to start.  Recycling is great, but it does little to address our dependency on traditional forms of energy production.  With Offset My Life, individuals can control their impact on the environment in a very simple and effective way.  Acting for a greener future really isn’t as difficult as many make out.”

Offset My Life is operated through a simple online e-commerce site.  Through the site, individuals are given the choice of purchasing offsetts that will negate the carbon impact of certain parts, or indeed entire years, of their lives.

The Offset My Life website is extremely basic and intuitive. With only a few simple clicks, a customer can very quickly review the different offsets available and proceed to purchase.  Once a purchase has been completed, the site itself automatically updates a counter indicating the exact amount of carbon the business has kept from entering the environment.

“We offer a broad range of offsets from $5 up to $235. You can choose to offset your phone, your TV, your Fridge or your pet.  You can even offset your farts.  The important thing is that it is completely up to you.  Offset My Life is about freedom of choice.  We wanted to remove any obligation and make the choice to go green as palatable to as many people as possible.” says Mr Growcott.

Whilst there seems no end in sight to the political storm surrounding the Carbon Tax and the broader carbon crisis, Mr Dolan is excited to offer Australians an easy alternative and another reason to consider greener living:

“We created Offset My life to be catalyst for debate and a conduit for immediate change.  We are not pushing any particular political agenda or trying to initiate action through fear or guilt.  We just know that there are people out there who will appreciate being given the opportunity to make a difference.  We also know that making a difference doesn’t have to be as difficult as some would have us believe.”
